Get Involved

yesfishing.org was created to get the fishing community in Southern California involved in the MLPA process. Getting involved is essential if our interests are going to be represented while new MPAs are considered. Listed below are some of the ways you can get involved and help drive the process.

  • Learn more about the MLPA.

This website has all the information you need to know about the MLPA. Click the MLPA Info link to find out why it's important to get involved so that more areas stay open to fishing.

  • Attend a meeting.

Most MLPA meetings are open to the public and some have time set aside for public comment. Attending one of these meetings to show your support for the fishing community sends a clear message to the MLPA Initiative that our interests are just as important. Click the Meetings link to find out when and where the next meeting is.

  • Send a message.

Sending a message to the MLPA Initiative, local, state, and federal representatives, and others with influence shows that the fishing community will not be ignored while other interests have their ideas considered uncontested. By making our concerns, questions, and ideas heard we ensure that the fishing community will have somewhere to fish in the future. Visit the Send a Message page to find out how to help.

  • View the maps and give feedback.

The Maps section of this website has cataloged all the maps produced by the MLPA Initiative and from external groups. You can share your thoughts on each of these maps to tell the Initiative which MPAs you support and which you don't. This feature is an important part of getting involved because it gives you the opportunity to provide direct feedback on what the Initiative is planning, feedback that they would not otherwise have.

  • Respond to an article or blog post.

The News and Updates section has many articles from Southern California news sites and blogs. Many of these articles allow readers to respond and post comments. Consider posting your thoughts on these sites and show your support for recreational fishing.

  • Write an Op-Ed letter to the editor of a news paper.

Getting the word out to the public about the MLPA is critical. Consider writing an Op-Ed letter to the editor of one of Southern California's many news papers. Here's a list of some papers:

    The Daily Breeze
    The Dana Point Times
    The Del Mar Times
    The Laguna Beach Independent
    The Long Beach Press Telegram
    The Los Angeles Times
    The Malibu Times
    The Orange County Register
    The San Clemente Times
    San Diego Union Tribune

  • Share your thoughts on a web forum.

yesfishing.org is working to bring together everyone from the fishing community. Whether you are into surf fishing, offshore fishing, kayak fishing, saltwater fly fishing, or pier fishing the MLPA effects all of us. Many of you post on fishing web forums and many people on those forums may not know about the MLPA. You can get involved by posting about the MLPA on the forums you visit and help others learn about what's going on. Also consider posting on non-fishing related websites that may have users that are more casually involved in fishing.

Some fishing websites to check out include:
    allcoast.com
    Big Water’s Edge
    FishingNetwork.net
    Get Bent Sportfishing
    bloodydecks.com
    SC Surf Fishing
    Senor Tuna

  • Tell a friend.

Many in the public are not aware of the MLPA or the far reaching effects it will have. Get involved by talking about the MLPA with friends and family and tell them how they can get involved.
